DRZ4S luggage: what exists and what actually mounts?

"We're all waiting for the aftermarket to catch up." That is the DRZ4S luggage truth in one rider sentence. As of July 2026, we have verified 1 soft luggage system for the 2025 DR-Z4S: the Tusk Excursion, heat shield included, no drilling for the bags themselves. Dedicated racks exist from Adventure Spec, Outback Motortek and AXP. Confirm each with the retailer before you buy.

Fitment checked July 2026. Verified or labeled.

Subframe

Rider reported, not a manufacturer figure: 10 to 15 kg total on road and about 6 kg off road. Suzuki publishes no subframe figure.

What luggage rack options exist for the DRZ4S right now?

The Suzuki OEM rear carrier (part 46300-37810) is the baseline. Adventure Spec makes a 2.3 kg side rack (no drilling, Kriega and Mosko compatible). Outback Motortek makes a 1.9 kg rack listed at $215 when we checked on 14 Jul 2026; confirm the current price at the retailer. AXP also lists a rear rack. Confirm availability with each retailer before you buy.

Will DR-Z400 racks and bags fit the DR-Z4S?

No bolt-on carryover. The 4S ships with a new bolt-on aluminum subframe, so every rack is a model-specific SKU: DR-Z400 side racks, tail racks and pannier frames do not cross over. A drilling hack through the rear fender exists, with an $85 fender replacement risk if botched.

Keeping soft bags off the DR-Z4S exhaust

The 4S runs a high-routed exhaust on the right; a strap that sags an inch will scorch. Three rules riders on the current bike agree on: mount high and forward so the bag's belly sits above the header, use the heat shield that ships with the Tusk Excursion (do not remove it to save weight), and re-tension straps after the first 20 km when the harness settles. On the left side the concern flips to the rear wheel: keep a 2-finger gap under load.

Despite the rackless description, is it better to run with a small rear rack?

The honest answer for the 1 verified system we list: the Tusk Excursion needs a rear anchor point and the 4S has nothing solid back there, the plate area is plastic. In practice riders anchor it to a rear rack, and every 4S rack today means drilling the fender. We say this on the product row too.

How much can I carry rackless?

Rider-reported: 10 to 15 kg total on road held fine over a 1000 km trip, about 6 kg off-road. Adjust rear preload when loaded, the factory lock ring is extremely tight. Vendor numbers appear as vendor rated until independently verified.

How do I keep bags off the exhaust and rear wheel?

The universal heat rule applies, plus the 4S-specific pattern: dust under saddlebags scratches the rear plastics, riders fix it with vinyl film. Kriega's own advice for the 4S today: OS Dirtbike, nothing model-specific yet.

How much can a DR-Z4S carry?

Suzuki does not print a maximum load for the DR-Z4S. It publishes a gross vehicle weight rating of 335 kg and a curb mass of 151 kg for the 2025 model. A gross vehicle weight rating is the ceiling for the entire loaded machine, the bike itself included. It is not a cargo allowance. Subtracting the kerb figure from the gross figure does not produce a luggage allowance, and this site does not publish one. That combined figure and the rack figure on this page measure different things. The rack figure is only what may sit on the rack itself.

The Suzuki genuine rear carrier, part 46300-37810, is rated at 2 kg maximum. That rating comes from the genuine accessories catalogue, not the owner's manual.

Suzuki describes the DR-Z4S as primarily intended to carry small items when the rider is not carrying a passenger. Its loading instruction, as printed: keep cargo weight low and as close to the centre as possible, balance the load left and right, fasten it securely, and do not attach load boxes or items that protrude past the tail outside the body of the motorcycle.

Suzuki's heat warning, as printed: luggage touching a hot exhaust pipe, muffler or engine may cause the luggage or the motorcycle to catch fire, and luggage must not be allowed to touch hot parts.

The only model-specific soft luggage at a target retailer for the DR-Z4S today. Amazon owner reports on the Excursion line: bags can press on the plastics above the exhaust and melt both plastic and bag if positioned badly, and the hammer-in strap receptacles are a known weak point. Position high, use the included shield, re-check tension.
